This summer, while waiting for a train with my family, I helped my daughter memorize the GOSPEL acrostic that we developed for teenagers at Dare 2 Share. It is comprised of six simple sentences that sum up the message of the Bible and the good news of Jesus:
God created us to be with him.
Our sins separate us from God.
Sins cannot be removed by good deeds.
Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again.
Everyone who trust in him alone has eternal life.
Life with Jesus starts now and lasts forever.
During the Dare 2 Share conferences we have teenagers memorize it word for word so that they can share the gospel with anyone, anywhere and anytime without a tract, Bible, whiteboard or booklet. We don't want the lack of having evangelistic tools or tracts with them to be an excuse to avoid sharing their faith. So, if they have the GOSPEL memorized, they can at least explain it to their friends in a clear and cogent way.
At the time my daughter Kailey was eight years old (she turned 9 yesterday!) I thought it may be hard for her to learn and master this acrostic but she did it pretty quickly. After she could quote it without any help from me she said, "Daddy, this needs hand motions so people will pay attention to it." So she started coming up with hand motions to explain each point of the GOSPEL in her own Kailey way. I threw in some ideas into the mix and here is the result...
